Title: Chlorine Bleach
Description: Polly gets worked up about laundry.
Date: 1982
Comments:
This bit was inspired by an actual TV commercial airing in the early 80s (around the same time that Arizona instigated its State Lottery) where, through hidden camera, we watched as a man asked a lady in a Laundromat to do her wash without using chlorine bleach. The lady went into hysterics at the notion and repeatedly shouted, “How am I going to get my clothes clean without my chlorine bleach?” Her irrational response came off so comical that it seemed to me rife with possibilities for parody. The problem is, today, without knowledge of the original commercial, the bit seems kind of pointless. With that in mind, nothing will be missed by skipping this clip. Then again, watching it won’t be as traumatic as giving up one’s chlorine bleach.
